Buckeye (13-5, 8-1) broke the game open early and never let Westlake back in Tuesday, rolling to a 9-0 conference win at Westlake High School behind a shutout from Lilly Young and an 18-hit attack.
The decisive stretch came in the top of the first inning, when the Bucks quickly built a three-run lead. Faith Shaw delivered the first big blow with a two-run double, and Eleanor Shaw followed with an RBI single to put Buckeye in control. That early cushion was more than enough for Young, who kept Westlake off the scoreboard for all seven innings.
Buckeye added to the lead in the third, when Ava Piovarchy doubled to center field to make it 4-0. From there, the Bucks kept pressure on Westlake with line drives throughout the lineup and aggressive baserunning. Maddie Wilhelm went 3 for 4 with two runs and two stolen bases, Eleanor Shaw finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a double, Faith Shaw went 2 for 4 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs, and Piovarchy added a 3-for-4 day with a double, one run and two RBIs.
Sarah Michaels also turned in an all-around performance, going 2 for 5 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base while making several big defensive plays at shortstop. Cassie Minarchick and Juliana Melillo each added multiple hits as Buckeye piled up traffic on the bases all afternoon. The Bucks stole four bases in the game, with Wilhelm accounting for two of them.
Young’s work in the circle set the tone just as much as Buckeye’s offense. She blanked Westlake over seven innings to secure the shutout, while the defense played cleanly behind her. Buckeye did not commit an error, and Michaels helped anchor that effort on the left side of the infield with several standout plays.
Westlake starter Schneider took the loss after working seven innings. Buckeye scored nine runs, eight of them earned, and did not draw a walk, making the 18-hit output even more notable. With the win, the Bucks head into Wednesday’s matchup against Valley Forge coming off one of their most complete performances of the season.
