Buckeye High School’s swimming and diving program turned in a solid day at the Cleveland West Conference meet in Lakewood on Saturday, with the Bucks’ girls team placing sixth with 68.5 points and the boys squad finishing seventh with 20 points. The girls edged Normandy and Valley Forge in the team standings, while the boys finished ahead of Valley Forge behind a series of point-scoring swims and time drops across the lineup.

Competing at Lakewood’s facility on Franklin Boulevard, Buckeye’s girls put together multiple top-12 finishes to secure their sixth-place team result. Junior Abby Parrott led the way, claiming a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle and a fourth-place showing in the 100-yard breaststroke, earning key points in both of her individual events. Several underclassmen also contributed, giving the lineup balance and depth in the sprint and middle-distance races.

Freshman sprinter Amy Justice provided a strong performance in the 50-yard freestyle, placing 12th and adding to the Bucks’ point total in one of the meet’s deepest events. Fellow freshman Bobbie Zarobell scored in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing 11th and continuing a promising first high school season. Junior distance specialist Maddie Kreeger added another important result with a sixth-place finish in the grueling 500-yard freestyle, helping keep Buckeye in front of Normandy and Valley Forge in the team race.

Buckeye’s relay units also delivered, with the girls placing sixth in both the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Zarobell, sophomore Maddie Dahlquist, Kreeger and Parrott accounted for those relay finishes, giving the Bucks valuable points in two high-impact events. The consistent relay swims, paired with the individual results, highlighted the team’s depth across multiple grade levels and strokes.

On the boys side, Buckeye’s scoring was led by standout swims from Noah Parrott, who placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke. His performances helped anchor the Bucks’ effort and were key in lifting the boys into seventh place ahead of Valley Forge. While the boys did not place as high in the standings as the girls, their finish reflected competitive swims in multiple events and progress across the roster.

Coaches noted that many Buckeye athletes posted personal-best times in both individual events and relays, underscoring continued improvement as the season advances. With strong showings from upperclass leaders such as Abby Parrott and Kreeger and impactful contributions from freshmen like Justice and Zarobell, the Bucks positioned themselves well for upcoming championship and postseason meets while building momentum for the remainder of the schedule.
