Buckeye High School’s Bucks men’s bowling team delivered a strong showing at the NSBC Conference Tournament in Lorain, finishing fifth out of 12 teams behind a balanced lineup and several standout individual series. The Bucks compiled a 4,006 pin total, powered by three bowlers over 590 in series and consistent production in Baker play.
Senior anchor John Ambrose led the way with the top series of the day for Buckeye, rolling games of 225, 180 and 255 for a 660 set. Ambrose’s closing 255 provided a late surge in team scoring and helped solidify the Bucks’ position in the upper half of the standings. Right behind him was Alex Marconi, who turned in a 600 series highlighted by games of 213 and 225 around a middle game that dipped but did not derail his total.
Kevin Miller added another near-600 effort, posting games of 171, 211 and 216 for a 598 series that gave the lineup critical depth. The remaining individual games rounded out the Bucks’ total: Gavin Onyx contributed a 200 game, while Carter Fry added a 174. Sean Chambers chipped in with a pair of steady games at 157 and 169, and SAW followed with games of 130 and 176, giving Buckeye the extra pinfall needed to stay competitive in a deep conference field.
The Bucks also performed well in Bakers, stringing together games of 201, 162, 201, 180, 196 and 202. That stretch included three games at 200 or better, underscoring the team’s ability to work together in the lineup and make quality shots in the five-player format. The closing Baker games of 196 and 202 helped Buckeye finish the block on a high note and maintain its hold on fifth place.
With 12 teams in the division, the fifth-place finish places Buckeye solidly in the upper tier of the NSBC and offers a positive benchmark as the schedule moves deeper into the season. The combination of a big series from Ambrose, strong support from Marconi and Miller, and reliable Baker production suggests the Bucks have the depth and scoring potential to contend in upcoming conference events and postseason play.
