Buckeye High School’s Bucks men’s wrestling program turned in a strong team performance at the Hoban Invitational on Saturday in Akron, placing fourth overall despite entering just 10 weight classes.
The headline result came at 132 pounds, where Logan Letner captured his first tournament championship as a member of the Bucks. Letner’s title run was punctuated by a pair of signature wins, as he knocked off the No. 22-ranked wrestler in Division II and the No. 5-ranked wrestler in Division I on his way to the top of the podium. His championship not only highlighted the day for Buckeye but also provided a significant boost to the team score in a deep invitational field.
Buckeye added another top-three finish at 150 pounds, where Carter Hershkowitz battled through his bracket to place third. Hershkowitz’s performance helped anchor the middle weights for the Bucks and kept the team in contention near the top of the standings throughout the day. His finish, combined with Letner’s title, gave Buckeye two high-placing entries in a competitive stretch of the lineup.
In the upper weights, 190-pounder Sawyer Davis added to the Bucks’ scoring with a fourth-place finish. Davis’ placement capped a balanced effort that saw Buckeye reach the podium across multiple weight classes, from the lightweights to the upper weights, and helped secure the fourth-place team result.
Buckeye’s depth showed in the consolation rounds as well. Fifth-place finishes came from 106-pounder Vinny Joy, 113-pounder Jake Cekeda and 157-pounder Kaden Locker, each wrestling back through the bracket to earn valuable team points. At 126 pounds, Joe Stahl placed sixth, adding another podium spot and reinforcing the Bucks’ presence in the lower and middle weights.
The Bucks also picked up three seventh-place finishes from 106-pounder Chris Nameth, 113-pounder Zack Simmons and 120-pounder Chase Geyer. Those efforts rounded out Buckeye’s scoring and were especially important given the limited number of weight classes the team entered. With only 10 weights filled, each wrestler’s ability to reach the placement rounds played a significant role in the overall team outcome.
By the end of the tournament, Buckeye’s fourth-place finish at the Hoban Invitational underscored both top-end talent and lineup resilience. With Letner emerging as a tournament champion and multiple teammates reaching the podium, the Bucks established positive momentum as they continue through the heart of the winter schedule.
