For the girls lacrosse program, few students have embodied dedication, leadership, and heart quite like senior co-captain Andreea Ghise. From the very beginning of the program, Dre has been one of its strongest supporters and most dependable leaders.
When discussions first began about introducing lacrosse as a sport, Dre immediately stepped forward. She believed in the vision from day one and was always willing to do whatever was needed to help the program grow. Whether it meant spending lunch periods promoting the sport to classmates or encouraging other students to give lacrosse a try, Dre was there every step of the way. Her enthusiasm and commitment helped lay the foundation for the team’s development.
Beyond her work recruiting players, Andreea also played a major role in creating the team’s culture. She organized team-building activities that brought energy and excitement to the program — from morning wake-ups and silly string fights to selecting music for practices. Her personality and positivity helped create an environment where teammates felt connected both on and off the field.
In the classroom, Dre is equally impressive. She is known for working hard academically while also maintaining strong friendships across multiple sports communities, including basketball, track and field, and softball. No matter the event, she is often there supporting her fellow students and teammates. That support has clearly been returned to her, as evidenced by the strong turnout of friends who celebrated her during senior night for lacrosse.
What stands out most about Andreea is her heart, maturity, and friendship. Her teammates voted her captain because of the leadership she consistently demonstrated both on and off the field. Throughout her career, she battled through multiple injuries involving her shoulder and hip, yet her effort and determination never wavered. She continued to give everything she had to the team every single day.
Among her athletic highlights were scoring two memorable goals — one against Kirtland and another against St. Joes. However, statistics and accomplishments only tell part of her story. What will truly be remembered about Dre is the joy and love she brought to the game. During the matchup against St. Joes, she was connecting with players from both teams, making friends, talking throughout the game, and even helping organize a group picture afterward. Her sportsmanship and genuine kindness reflected the very best qualities of student-athletes.
Even after her own high school playing career concluded, Dre’s passion for lacrosse remained strong. While attending a game at Brunswick High School, she continued asking questions, wanting to learn more, and staying engaged with the sport she helped build from the beginning.
Andreea Ghise leaves behind much more than goals, wins, or accolades. She leaves a lasting example of leadership, perseverance, friendship, and joy — the kind of qualities that make a student truly stand above.
