Buckeye scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday, then finished off a 7-6 walk-off victory over Midview when Perkins lined a single that brought home the winning run at Buckeye High School.

The Bucks trailed 6-3 entering their final at-bat, but put together the decisive rally after battling back and forth all afternoon. Heers helped start the comeback push in the seventh with a fielder’s choice that scored a run and cut the deficit to one. Later in the inning, Perkins delivered the game-ending hit to left field with the score tied at 6, sending Buckeye to the dramatic home win.

Midview grabbed the early edge in the top of the first when DeSimone doubled to drive in a run. Buckeye answered quickly in the bottom half and moved in front 2-1 on Brown’s groundout. The Middies surged back in the second, taking advantage of a single down the left field line by Lowrie and an RBI from Ellis to reclaim the lead. Buckeye pulled even again in the fourth when Heers stole home, making it 3-3.

Midview appeared to seize control in the fifth. Singles by Linden and Lowrie helped the visitors build a 6-3 advantage, putting pressure on Buckeye late. The Bucks stayed within reach, then delivered their biggest inning in the seventh to erase the deficit and finish the comeback.

Perkins and Brown each collected two hits for Buckeye, while Costigan, Perkins, Heers, Seeley and Brown each drove in one run. The Bucks also pressured Midview throughout the game on the bases, stealing five bags, including Heers’ steal of home that became one of the game’s turning points.

Metter earned the win in relief for Buckeye, allowing two hits and no runs over two innings while striking out two and walking one. Stough started and worked five innings, allowing 10 hits and six runs, three earned, with two strikeouts and one walk. DeSimone started for Midview and struck out seven over five innings, allowing four runs, one earned, on three hits and three walks. Lowrie took the loss after giving up three runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings.

For Buckeye, the finish was the story. Down three runs in the seventh and facing the end of the game, the Bucks found enough offense one last time, capped by Perkins’ walk-off single at the Varsity Baseball Field.
